Alliosn McKenzie Named Outstanding Conservationist
On December 19, 2008 Allison McKenzie a District Conservationist for the NRCS was named the WACD Outstanding Conservationist at the 63rd Wyoming Association of Conservation Districts State Convention held in Gillette, WY.
Allison started with the NRCS in the summer of 1991 and has worked in 6 Field offices across the state of Wyoming. She began her work with the Kaycee NRCS Field Office and the Powder River Conservation District in May of 2001. When she started there were 2 Farm Bill Contracts in the district and is now currently administering 37 contracts. Allison has written 11 contracts this year and has designed over 15 miles of stockwater pipeline this spring/summer. During her tenure with the NRCS, Allison has endeared herself to the community through her work, her personality and her compassion. She is a valuable resource for Southern Johnson County and we all have come to rely on her in numerous ways.
As a professional, Allison shares her knowledge and resources for the agriculture, range, wildlife, rural and urban interests in the community. During the flood of 2002, Allison was a pivotal part of the rebuilding process providing support, resources and compassion to those in need. Again, during the flooding season that occurred this past spring (2008) Allison was there for us all. She spent days and nights watching the floodwaters, sharing information and calming nerves. She is quick to come to those in need and follows through with her programs.

Allison has developed successful relationships with all segments of the community. Young and old alike count on her as a resource. Her conservation projects with cooperators are completed in a professional, timely matter. It’s almost funny, but when a question arises in the community that touches on conservation in one way or another, “let’s ask Allison, she’ll know,” is usually the comment that can be heard!

Farm Bill projects, environmental assessments, range improvement and flood mitigation are just a few of the resources that Allison provides to our community. Her abilities go way beyond what is expected of a NRCS employee. She works well with partner organizations, understands different personalities and facilitates progress in her work.
Allison currently serves as a member of the Kaycee Tree Board, as Vice-President of the Johnson County 4-H Council and the Wyoming Federal Women’s Program Manager. She is also very involved in the 4-H program in Johnson County.
